Description:   The Union Express is a 170' long Dutch Coastal Freighter. The ship is laying on the port side, broken in 2 pieces, facing north. The Mariner II Barge is just offshore to ENE in swimming distance. The Union Express is part of the "Wreck Graveyard". There are 7 wrecks within 1000' of each other. Large schools of fish followed by large pelagics swim between the wrecks.

History:   The Union Express was built in Germany in 1959. Designed as a coastal freighter, the ship worked for awhile in the Northern Sea and later carried food and supplies in the Caribbean and  down the South American coast.  The ship was seized by Federal Agents in 1990 for drug smuggling. Finally on April 25, 1992 she was sunk by the Pompano Fishing Rodeo and the Broward County Artificial Reef Program. She is sometimes called the Outboard Mariner 1 due to sponsorship money donated by a engine manufacturer.
